Parent Involvement

How can I become involved in the PS/IS 180 School Community?
Research shows that children do best when their families are involved in their education. At P.S. 180, volunteer opportunities abound both large and small, and we value any contribution you make. Other family members, such as grandparents, aunts and uncles, are warmly welcomed and strongly encouraged to volunteer to the extent their schedule will allow. Bear in mind that you are not allowed to volunteer in your child’s classroom unless the teacher has given you permission to do so.

If you have a special interest or talent (such as art, photography or technology) or expertise (such as legal or grant writing), please write a note to the principal or the PTA about your ideas and availability.

The School Leadership Team – This group is an integral part of the school.   It is comprised of parents, staff, and community members.  Its purpose is to assess the educational initiative of the school.  Meetings are held on alternate Wednesdays at 7:30am to discuss ongoing school initiatives and the school’s direction.  All are welcome.

Volunteering at School- For those who would like to volunteer at school,  please contact Parent Coordinator Mrs. Wilson for more information: (212) 678-2849 x2370.

PS/IS 180 Parent Teacher Association – The Parent Teacher Association can always use your help.  The PTA is dedicated toward improving the learning environment and opportunities for our students.  They have provided resources to our students through their fund-raising efforts.  The PTA generally meets on the third Saturday of the month at 10am. Please check the calendar.

A calendar of school events will be distributed to families each month.  Please refer to it throughout the year to keep up with workshops, half days, school holidays and other special events that will affect both you and your child.
